As winter melts into spring, every creature – great and small – is eager to greet the start of new life and a season of warm weather. For us humans who have been hibernating inside for six months, it is the time to stretch our legs and feel a new appreciation for sunny days. And for Throggs Neck Kiwanians, it is the signal to dust off our running shoes in preparation for the Run for the Wild at the Bronx Zoo.
Every April, the Wildlife Conservation Society hosts the Run with various teams and individuals who walk and race for donations to help save a featured endangered animal. Since 2017, Throggs Neck Kiwanis has spent one Saturday morning walking the 3 km loop around the Bronx Zoo to raise money and awareness to save sharks, elephants, big cats, giraffes, and more! It is a chance to enjoy the outdoors, learn about our planet’s inhabitants and have fun while joining with others to help save animals of our fragile planet.
